Right now one of the most awesome series, not that I´m watching many but it follows one of my favorite book themes dystopia and is based on a book by Margaret Atwood which I now have to read.
It´s obvious she took inspiration by some of the biggest authors George Orwell and Aldous Huxley, some of my favorites. Though it´s nice to see a woman do this theme, surely she will have other inputs, especially when it comes to the women's situation in the society. Gonna read the book and hopefully I get a better grasp of her ideas, though it seems like just from watching the serie that it surely reflects the woman´s situation in today´s world, trapped in our role as a mum, birth-giver and lover, having a hard time to think outside the role. Sure, it´s one of the greatest gifts to be able to be mum and birth-giver, but as everything it has it´s advantages and disadvantages, like losing yourself on the way and what your real purpose is besides being a mum and a wife, your voice and your personality, your soul. Sure, many are happy this way and prefers to just to close their eyes, but there will be one day when you will realize that there gotta be more to life, and if you haven´t thought about it before you will probably stand there in the end more confused then ever.
One of the most powerful scenes in this serie is in episode 3 when they are running away from the military, June and Moira and the remix of Blondie´s song Heart of glass plays. I never thought much of Heart of glass but this remix is so good, and with that scenary it is so powerful. I guess it really got to me, so you should see this serie if you are in to the whole dystopia and melancholic stuff mixed with great music like this one.
